Ice climbing requires you to have tight-fitting gloves so you can grip your ice tools, turn your ice screws and clip carabiners with control. Therefore, we recommend having a tight fit on the glove you choose to use.

The key to staying warm while ice climbing is to make sure your wrist is warm. This can be challenging when swinging ice tools above your head. One way is to use baselayers with thumb loops, but that can sometimes cause circulation problems. Another way is to use a gauntlet glove that fits over your jacket to keep snow and ice out of your glove and jacket and away from your wrist.
